CANES ADD HOOPS STAR
The Canes landed a verbal commitment from North Carolina prep star Garrius Adams, a 6-5, 185-pound shooting guard who averaged 18 points and 8 rebounds as a junior last season.
Adams, a three-star recruit as rated by rivals.com, turned down North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, among others.
Adams, ranked among the top 150 players in the nation, has a reputation as a very good outside shooter and a tough defender due to his height and long arms (82-inch wingspan).
Considered a late-bloomer, Adams emerged last season as the Player of the Year in his conference and started to suddenly get calls from major college programs with his continued excellence this summer.
The 4-minute Adams clip on You Tube was impressive. Adams is shown dominating a high school game by scoring off the dribble on drives, long jumpers, turn-around jumpers in the lane and just about every way you can imagine. He also showed he can pass, rebound and block shots.
Like most prep kids, he will need to get stronger as he is too skinny right now to play the college game. But he has ideal size for a shooting guard. Perhaps the Canes stole one with this kid, who lives right in the middle of ACC Country.
