FRESHMEN SET TO REPORT
Here is an update on the Canes' freshman class, some of whom reported in January, others just now arriving on campus and five kids who may not make it at all:
QB - Jacory Harris and Cannon Smith enrolled early and took part in spring drills, with the former especially impressive. Taylor Cook now reports. But at 6-7 and athletic, he is more than just a QB. He wants to compete as a punter and could be a tight end down the road.
FB - Junior-college transfer Patrick Hill enrolled early and has already made an impact as a heavy-duty blocker. Freshman John Calhoun also took part in spring and is cut in the same mold.
WR - Aldarius Johnson took part in spring drills and showed that he is a big, advanced prototypical wide receiver. But now the Canes get really deep with big targets Tommy Streeter and Laron Byrd and smaller, quicker guys such as Travis Benjamin, Davon Johnson, Thearon Collier and Kendal Thompkins joining the fray.
OL - The Canes are thin here after having signed only two prospects, Ben Jones and Brandon Washington. Worse, it looks like Washington may not make the academic requirements and may need to spend a few months in a prep school.
DL - Marcus Forston looked good in spring drills and he will be joined by fellow DTs Jeremy Lewis and Micanor Regis. Also, DE Andrew Smith, who was 50-50 on his academics, has earned the grades and test scores he needed. And with the injuries to Courtney Harris and Allen Bailey at DE, he will get a chance. Also watch for pass-rushing LB Marcus Robinson to get a trial as a DE on passing downs.
LB - Sean Spence was a star as a true freshman this spring, and Arthur Brown was not far behind. Now, Jordan Futch, Ramon Buchanon, Gavin Hardin and Brandon Marti enter the picture. More help could come if Zach Kane clears a legal hurdle and if Antonio Harper gets the test score he needs.
DB - Watch out. No freshman's arrival is more eagerly anticipated than that of phenom cornerback Brandon Harris, who could start right away. California's Vaughn Telemaque is another kid who could make an impact right away. Joe Wylie, who played safety in high school, could get a chance at corner. Two freshmen - safeties C.J. Odom and C.J. Holton - have yet to make the grade and may have to go to prep school.
K - Jake Wieclaw took part in spring drills and will compete for a starting job as a freshman.

the claw
I happen to used to live in frankfort, the town next to new lenox, where jake wieclaw is from. Saw the kid kick acouple times against their rival school, my alma mater. He’s a hell of a kicker, unbelievable strength and his approach is very consitent. Great grab for you guys, dont be suprised if he does win that starting role
