CANES' SEASON ENDS
Stanford has just eliminated the Canes from the College World Series, 8-3.
It's a crushing loss for the Canes, considering they were the No. 1 team in the nation at the start of the playoffs.
But let's keep this in perspective. The Canes had a great season.
They won the first major-sport ACC championship in school history.
They eliminated arch-rival Florida State from the CWS.
They had a school-record three first-round picks.
Unfortunately, closer Carlos Gutierrez couldn't close out Georgia in Miami's first loss, and the Canes' offense failed repeatedly with runners on in their loss to Stanford.
End of story.
Now the Canes will have to reload around pitchers Chris Hernandez, Eric Erickson, Kyle Bellamy, Iden Nazario, Anthony Nalepa and hitters such as Yaz Grandal, Jason Hagerty, Ryan Jackson and possibly Adan Severino if he comes back.
