ANOTHER BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP WOULD BE SWEET
Both Baseball America and ESPN ranked the Canes No. 1 in the nation for the first time this season in the latest poll, released Monday.
One day later, on Tuesday, left fielder Dave DiNatale led the Canes (27-2) to a 4-2 victory over Florida Gulf Coast with a two-run, walk-off homer in the 11th inning. DiNatale, a transfer from the University of Central Florida, had all four of the Canes' RBI and is having a strong season.
Mark Sobolewski started the rally with a single that came after he fouled off 9 pitches in an outstanding at-bat. That set up Dino's heroics.
It was the second walk-off homer for the Canes in the past week. The other was by Yonder Alonso.
The Canes, who play host to Florida Atlantic tonight, are showing that they have championship stuff. Hopefully, they won't peak too early because there is still a long way to go to win a title.
The Canes have won 14 in a row and are ranked No. 1 for the first time since 2004.
