CANES A 17-POINT UNDERDOG
The 5-5 Hurricanes travel to 8-2 Virginia Tech for Saturday's game in which Miami is a 17-point underdog.
The Hokies lost only to top-ranked LSU (48-7) and to Boston College (14-10) when the Eagles were unbeaten.
Two of the Hokies' three most impressive wins came in the past couple of weeks, beating Georgia Tech 27-3 on the road and then coming home to spank Florida State 40-21. Their other big win was 41-23 earlier in the season at Clemson.
Miami leads the Virginia Tech series 16-8, but that is a bit misleading in terms of recent history. The Canes won the first 9 games in the series and have gone 7-8 since. And Blacksburg, Va., is one of the toughest places to play in the nation.
The Hokies can't seem to decide between Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. And Brandon Ore is not a great back.
But the Hokies always have an agressive defense and great special teams. That spells trouble for the Canes - unless we can find the Miami team that played Texas A&M and FSU.
